Transformers: Dark of the Moon Review from a Decepticon

I'm a Decepticon fan, Megatron groupie and everything else. I love the Transformers cartoons and have liked the movies so far. I recently saw Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon and was disappointed. Not just because my favorite character, Megatron, was killed in the end, but it simply was not up to par for me. Admittedly, the movies were designed to attract an older crowd, and most of the movies revolve more around flesh bag Sam Witwicky, but the third movie left more to be desired than the previous ones. The first movie stands on its own excellently, balancing the human and Autobot storyline decently, with wonderful cinematic, and despite that it was definitely intended to be a guy's movie, it was broad enough that I, as a female, did not feel excluded.

And despite that many people don't like Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen, I did like it, though it was a movie they could have included more into and the twins intended purpose of 'comedy relief' failed. (Perhaps why they were excluded from the Dark of the Moon?)

Dark of the Moon, however, made me wary from the start. The trailers had Optimus Prime essentially abandoning the planet to the Decepticons with Sam and Agent Simmons being told that the War is their own now, it made me concerned that the Autobots would be out of character, and it wasn't far from the truth, while for the most part the Autobots were in character, but the ending I did not like. Optimus' brutality towards the Decepticons in the end displeased me. Not only because I wanted the Decepticons to live for continuation and fanfiction reasons, but there is also the fact that one of Optimus' main traits throughout his storylines is that he is compassionate. Megatron offered a truce and Optimus gave no mercy! He killed him like a Decepticon would.

Yes, that was my greatest disappointment in the movie. In their effort to make the series targeted towards teenagers and young adults instead of children, they have made dramatic changes to some of the basic characteristics of the Leader of the Autobots, and kind of ruined it for me.

I love how brutally honest you are in this review. I have to say that i too didn't really care much for this movie either. Mainly for the same reasons you said, as I thought Bay completely deviated from who the characters were. Plus, I think they kind of turned Megatron into a wimp in this third movie when you stop to think about it.

In the first film, Optimus Prime was so powerful that he was able to defeat two of the Decepticons with ease like Devastator, but Megatron tossed Optimus around like a rag doll in the first movie; which only made Megatron look that much more like a bad a** in the first film. Then in the second movie, Megatron kills Optimus Prime, so the final showdown in the third movie should've been epic between Prime and Megatron. Not just because Megatron kicked Optimus' a** the only two times they fought in the previous films, but because they're essentially two sides to the same coin. Megatron is the yang to Optimus' Yin, so their final showdown in this trilogy where Optimus finally defeats Megatron should've been an epic fight to remember. Unfortunately, like Rosie's character said in the third movie, "your nothing more than (I know there's no character named Mike in this film, but I'm using it to hide the real villains name, so i won't spoil things for anyone) Mike's b****!"; which is exactly what Megatron is in this third movie. It seems like Megatron SHOULD'VE been the main adversary for this movie, but Bay turned him into too much of a a** kisser by the time Mike joined the Decepticon's cause.

As for Optimus Prime, I do agree with you there completely, as I think they should've made Optimus a lot more sympathetic. As the Optimus that I know wouldn't have easily been able to easily decide to kill his friend Mike like that; even if he betrayed the Autobots the way he did. At least, I don't think he would've. Oh well. Anyways, sorry for rambling on like an idiot. I really enjoyed reading your hub, and it's nice to see a fellow transformer fan out there that didn't care for this movie either, as I was starting to think that I was alone for a while. lol. Anyways, keep up the good work, as i'll be sure to rate up this hub.

Yes, Megatron really was 'Mike's' B**ch in the last film, and 'Mike' wasn't the most interesting or developed character in the film. If I hadn't watched and read the other storylines, I would have had no idea his importance in the film. Thanks for the comment.
